Hrithik Roshan starrer film ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’, released in the year 2011, has completed 10 years today (July 15). Apart from Hrithik, the film directed by Zoya Akhtar also starred Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol, Katrina Kaif and Kalki Koechlin in the lead roles. The story and screenplay of this film was prepared by Zoya along with Reema Kagti. On the occasion of 10 years of the film, both Zoya and Reema have announced that its part-2 will also be brought. Both of them said in a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, “The topic of bringing a sequel comes up again and again among all of us. We are really looking to see what the story of the next part will take. The story of all the characters we will go ahead with. It should be interesting otherwise it would be better to bring the sequel in some other form.
You can make the next part only with the characters and actors of Part-1
Zoya and Reema continue, “We are looking at both the options. Either we can make the next part with the characters and cast of Part One, or we can keep the spirit of the film in Part One. The next part will be made on the new characters and events that happened. Like it was in ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ and ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’. The characters and events were different in both, but the spirit was the same.”
Started writing and making films keeping in mind the road trip genre
Zoya and Reema also shared the making of Part One of the film. Zoya said, “I had released ‘Luck By Chance’ in 2009. There was such a huge cast in that film that I told Reema that in the next film I just want the cast of three lead actors. So ‘Zindagi Na Milegi… ‘ It started from there. Then I and Reema loved road trips. We both did a lot of road trips in India and Abroad too. On those trips I used to feel that there should be a film on that genre. So We started writing and making the film keeping in mind the low star cast and road trip genre.”
Nothing was imposed or manipulative in the film.
According to Reema Kagti, “People like these types of films because there is no format or formula in its writing. Whatever aspirations were from the life of the characters, we presented them in a very organic way. Wasn’t too imposed or manipulative.” Regarding this, Zoya said, “There was no graph of our characters in that film. Instead, the character creations were made keeping in mind how emotionally they are in the beginning and what changes a journey will bring to them in the end.”
Tomato and Bull sequences were filmed in the days of the festival in Spain
There were many exciting experiences during the shoot. Zoya said, “We were in a different city in Spain every other day when it was a road trip film. We were lucky to shoot the tomato or bull sequences in the film, as both the festivals were there on the same day. Reema had taken her wide shots. After the festival was over, the government gave us that location. Then we started taking close-up shots. This made both those scenes very authentic. After doing the tomato scenes, then Well the starcast didn’t even see the tomatoes for months, its smell which was so dangerous for everyone.”
Had to shoot that scene by getting several trucks of tomatoes from Portugal.
Reema Kagti shared another interesting anecdote related to the shooting of the scene of the film. He said, “Actually, the La Tomantina festival was over, it was shot by our second unit. The day after the festival, there were no tomatoes in all of Spain. So our main unit was having a lot of trouble shooting the song at the same location. So our producer Ritesh Sidhwani then had to shoot several trucks of tomatoes from Portugal to shoot that scene.”
We all agreed on the characters in which we had thought of the actors.
Zoya also shared the details of the cast of the film. He told, “We wrote the character of Imran Qureshi for Farhan only. Although Farhan was also the producer of the film. He said that if Hrithik likes this character, then give it to him. Fortunately, Hrithik likes Arjun Saluja in the film. came. Abhay Deol was shooting for some other film. So emailed him the story. He also agreed because he wanted Kabir Diwan’s character. So it became a very good thing for us that we had All the actors who had thought about the characters had also agreed to the same.
