In view of the threat of Corona, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has allowed only 30 Indian athletes to participate in the opening ceremony. Apart from this, 6 officers have been asked to attend. Also, the players whose event is on the first day of the Olympics have been asked not to take part.
This time 124 athletes from India are participating in the Olympics. Of this, 69 will be male and 55 female athletes and the rest will be staff members. Indian athletes will present their claim for 85 medals this time.
Athletes need safety before event
An IOA official said that we do not want any of our players to be infected before the event. For this reason, it was decided to keep the number of players and officials less than 50 in the opening ceremony. Earlier, IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta had said that to ensure the safety of athletes, our advice is that at least players should participate in it.
Athletes advised to rest before event
India’s Deputy Chief of Mission Prem Kumar Verma said that the organizers have already fixed the guidelines. He said the ceremony is expected to go on till midnight. Therefore, it is better for athletes to take rest to stay fresh in their respective events.
4 shooters event on the first day of the Olympics
On the first day, the events of 10m air pistol shooter Saurabh Chaudhary, Abhishek Verma, Apurvi Chandela and Elavenil Valarivan are from India. While the events of shooters Manu Bhaker, Yashaswini Singh Deswal, Deepak Kumar and Divyansh Singh Panwar are on the second day.
The Indian shooting team consists of 8 rifle, 5 pistol and 2 skeet shooters, 6 coaches and 1 physio. Apart from shooting, boxing, archery, men’s and women’s hockey teams have to play matches on the next day of the opening ceremony. India has appointed men’s hockey team captain Manpreet Singh and six-time boxing world champion MC Mary Kom as flag bearers for the opening ceremony.
30 athletes from Britain will also take part in the ceremony
Mary Kom’s event is a few days later. At the same time, Manpreet has to play Pool-A match against New Zealand the next day. Due to Corona, more than 30 athletes from Britain will also take part in the opening ceremony. This time 376 athletes from Britain are participating in the Olympics.
Emergency in Tokyo till August 22
Due to the rising corona cases in Tokyo, the state of emergency has been extended till 22 August. During this, orders have been given to close parks, hotels, restaurants, theaters till 8 pm.
