Today is the birth anniversary of TV serial ‘Ba’ i.e. Sudha Shivpuri. He played the role of ‘Ba’ in the popular TV show ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’. This character made him popular from house to house.

Father left at the age of 8

Born on July 14, 1937 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Sudha Shivpuri worked in many Hindi films apart from TV serials. He started acting at a very young age to help his ailing mother.

In fact, when Sudha was eight years old, her father’s shadow was lifted from her head. After the death of the father, all the responsibility of the house fell on Sudha’s mother but due to illness she was unable to do anything. In such a situation, Sudha had to work from a very young age to handle the responsibility of the house. He used to run the house with the money he earned. Sudha initially worked in radio and plays. He completed his studies from the National School of Drama and thereafter worked in a theater group.


Entry in films in 1977

His first film was Basu Chatterjee’s film ‘Swami’, released in 1977. Thus began his film journey. After which he acted in memorable films like ‘Insaaf Ka Taraju’, ‘Sawan Ko Aane Do’, ‘Vidhata’, ‘Pinjar’, and ‘Maya Memsaab’.

Married to actor Om Shivpuri

Sudha Shivpuri married actor Om Shivpuri in 1968. This was when her husband was struggling. After this both of them started a theater company. After the death of her husband in 1990, Sudha once again turned to the acting world and worked in TV shows like ‘Missing’, ‘Rishtey’ and ‘Sarhaden Bandhan’. But he got his big break in 2000 in producer Ekta Kapoor’s popular serial ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’. The character of ‘Ba’ played by him in this became popular from house to house. Sudha Shivpuri died of a heart attack in 2015 at the age of 78.
