The Congress has made Navjot Singh Sidhu the president of the party’s Punjab unit ahead of next year’s assembly elections. His appointment comes after months of tussle in the state. The former cricketer had openly revolted against Captain Amarinder Singh’s government on many issues. In the midst of this dispute, the high command had prepared a four-point formula for reconciliation. Under this, the interim president of the party, Sonia Gandhi, has made his appointments.
Along with Sidhu, 4 working presidents have also been made. Kuljit Nagra, Pawan Goyal, Sukhwinder Singh Danny and Sangat Singh have been given this responsibility. It was already decided that the names of the working presidents would be decided by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. Now Sidhu will have to adjust to these four.
The captain has placed the condition of apologizing
The biggest screw in this matter is a condition of Captain Amarinder Singh. He had put this condition in front of Congress’s Punjab in-charge Harish Rawat. He said that he would meet Sidhu only if he publicly apologized for his earlier statements. Sidhu had made serious allegations against Captain Sarkar ranging from sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib to sand mafia and power crisis.
The captain is very angry after these allegations. The Captain has clearly told Rawat, who arrived as the representative of the high command, that the way Sidhu made public allegations, he will also have to apologize openly. Only then will he meet Sidhu.
Captain angry with high command
Captain Amarinder Singh is also angry with the party high command. He believes that the high command did not handle the discord in Punjab Congress properly. Because of this, his image along with the party has also suffered. Therefore, now Captain Sidhu has stuck to the condition of apology.
