Pradosh Vrat: The great glory of Pradosh fast has been told in Hindu mythological texts and scriptures. The wonderful benefits of observing this fast, which comes twice in every month, have been told. This fast is very important for health. There is importance of worship at sunset. By observing this fast, one gets freedom from health and financial problems.
This time Ashadh Shukla Paksha Trayodashi date will be from 4:06 pm on Wednesday, 21st July to 1:32 pm the next day, because Pradosh Kaal is from 07:18 pm to 09:22 pm on 21st July. Therefore Pradosh fast will be on 21st July. People observing fast on this day have to remain fast for the whole day. Also, chanting ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ in the mind throughout the day is beneficial.
If you are not able to do this, then definitely chant at least 108 times. After this, in the evening after sunset, take a bath and worship Shiva’s Shodashopchar. It is best to worship Pradosh Vrat between 4.30 pm to 7.00 pm. After worship, one can eat fruits only once in a day, but food, salt and chillies are prohibited.
Materials required for worship: Water Kalash, Aarti Thal, Datura, cannabis, camphor, Belpatra, white flower-garland, white sweets, white sandalwood, incense, lamp, ghee, clothes, mango wood, havan material.
Worship method: After retiring from daily routine in the morning, take a bath and worship Lord Shiva. Those observing the fast should chant the Shiva mantra ‘Om Namah Shivay’ throughout the day while remaining fast throughout the day. Offer barley sattu, ghee and sugar in naivedya, after that, by placing 8 lamps in eight directions, bow to all eight times. After this, touch Nandishwar (calf) after feeding water and Durva.
