England has announced a squad of 17 members for the first two matches of the five-Test series against India starting on August 4. Fast bowler Jofra Archer and all-rounder Chris Woakes are not included in this. Both these players are battling with injuries.
Stokes did not play against New Zealand
All-rounder Ben Stokes has returned to the England Test team. He did not play in the two-Test series against New Zealand in June. Stokes was recovering from injury at the time. However, before the ODI series against Pakistan, the main team of England was given the command of the team when they were quarantined due to Corona. He led England to a 3-0 win in that series under his captaincy.
Jofra Archer and Chris Woakes are not fully fit yet.
Butler, Bairstow and Karan also return
Apart from Stokes, wicket-keeper batsmen Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow and Sam Curran have also returned to the Test team. All these players were also rested from the series against New Zealand. Fast bowler Olly Robinson, who took seven wickets in his debut Test against New Zealand, has also been given a chance.
Test Championship will begin
The second cycle of the ICC Test Championship will begin with the India-England series. There is an equal 12 points for every test match. The last series between the two teams was played in India. Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, Team India won that series 3-1. The Indian team has been in England since the beginning of June. There the team took part in the final of the World Test Championship against New Zealand from 18 to 23 June. Team India had to face defeat in that match.
