In 2019, Team India had stopped Qatar on a goalless draw in the match of the FIFA World Cup Qualifier.
World number-105 Team India gave a tough competition to world number-58 Qatar in the Group-E match of FIFA World Cup Qualifier played between India and Qatar on Thursday. However, the team had to face defeat. Qatar defeated the Indian team playing with 10 players 1-0. Team India played with 10 players for 73 minutes. In the 17th minute, Rahul Bhekhe got his second yellow card (red card) and was sent off the field.
Despite this, the team showed courage and stopped the Qatar team, ranked far above them, on a goal. Indian goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh made 9 brilliant saves. Abdulaziz of Qatar scored the only goal in the 33rd minute in the match played at the Jasim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha.
Rahul got 2 yellow cards in 8th and 17th minute
Rahul was shown the yellow card in the 8th and 17th minutes of the match. After he left the field, Suresh Singh was sent to defend. In the 29th minute, India got their first chance to score. Ashiq Kurunian dodges the Qatar defenders with a brilliant cross to Manveer. But Manveer failed to convert it into a goal.
Gurpreet made a total of 9 saves in the match.
Manveer missed a goal on several occasions
After 4 minutes Qatar took the lead. Team India again counter-attacked in the 42nd minute. India’s veteran forward Sunil Chhetri, taking advantage of his experience, once again passed the ball to Manveer. Manveer’s shot was blocked by Qatar’s defenders. There was only 1-0 score till half time.
Goalkeeper Gurpreet’s brilliant performance in the second half
Qatar increased the counter attack in the second half. However, Indian goalkeeper Gurpreet continued his scintillating performance. Team India coach Igor Stimac made 2 substitutes in the 84th minute. Abdul Sahal was sent to Ashiq and Liston Kolako was sent to the field in place of Suresh. However, Team India failed to score any goal against Asian champions Qatar.
India at number four in Group E with 3 points from 6 matches
Earlier these two teams had met in 2019. Then India held Qatar to a goalless draw. This is Team India’s third defeat in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and the 2023 AFC Asian Cup Joint Qualifiers. India are currently at number four in Group E with 3 points from 6 matches. Qatar are at the top of the group with 19 points from 7 matches.
Oman and Afghanistan team ahead of India
Oman’s team is on the second and third number with 12 points in 5 matches and Afghanistan’s team with 5 points in 6 matches. Bangladesh are at number 5 in the group with 2 points. India now has to play its next two matches against Afghanistan on June 7 and against Bangladesh on June 15.
