Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi is going to start a new department for energy engineering soon. In this regard, the institute said in a statement that the new department – the Department of Energy Science and Engineering, will expand the “scope and depth” of activities with the help of the Center for Energy Studies. The board of the institute has already given approval to convert the Energy Study Center into the Department of Energy Science and Engineering.

The focus will be on teaching and research activities

IIT Delhi said that the new department will focus on the teaching and research activities of the institute in the field of energy. It is also expected to provide visibility and make an effective contribution towards energy transition globally. The department will offer suitable academic programs in the field of energy to create the manpower required at all levels.


In addition, the new department will attract the best faculty, students and staff and will also provide a platform for active and effective collaboration between faculty associates at the institute and with other institutions.

B.Tech course will start

In addition to the three existing M.Tech programs under the Center for Energy Studies, the new department will also offer an undergraduate degree program – B.Tech in Energy Engineering from the academic session 2021-22. 40 students who qualify JEE (Advanced) for BTech in Energy Engineering will be given admission.

Students will get necessary knowledge

Giving information about the new BTech course, Professor KA Subramaniam, Head of CES, said that the “BTech in Energy Engineering Program is designed to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to enable them to face humanities To meet the challenges of the energy field.
