Assembly elections are due in Uttar Pradesh next year. Just before this, Congress has got a big setback. Jitin Prasad, a big leader of Congress in UP and close to Rahul Gandhi, joined BJP. Jitin’s stature in the Congress was quite big. He was a minister in the Manmohan Singh government. He was recently in charge of West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar. But over the years, Jitin’s influence has waned. Even he could not manage his area and even his seat. He lost the Lok Sabha elections twice and the assembly elections once.

Jitin also failed in the organization
The responsibility of the organization has also not been successful. As soon as he was in charge, the Congress was completely wiped out in the recent West Bengal elections. Congress came down to zero from 44 seats. Now talking about Jitin’s performance in UP, he could not do anything special here too. For the last three consecutive elections, he is getting a crushing defeat. This track record also shows that the mass base built by his father Jitendra Prasad and Congress in the areas of Rohilkhand including Shahjahanpur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bareilly has almost ended.

Even in the recent Panchayat elections, Radhika Prasad, sister-in-law of former Union Minister Jitin Prasada, stood in Khutar, Shahjahanpur from Ward-1. But he was defeated by BJP candidate Pooja Mishra.

The second wicket of Rahul’s Fab-4 fell
Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jitin Prasada, Sachin Pilot and Milind Deora – these are the 4 names who remained close to Rahul Gandhi for years. Whenever there was a discussion about Rahul Gandhi’s youth team, it would definitely be mentioned. But this team started deteriorating after the 2019 general elections, when Jyotiraditya lost the Lok Sabha elections from Guna. After that he left Congress and joined BJP. However, in the subsequent by-elections, the BJP did not gain much in Madhya Pradesh. The BJP also lost the Damoh election recently.

Jitin won twice, lost elections three times in a row

  • After winning the Lok Sabha elections in 2004 and 2009, Jitin suffered a crushing defeat in the Dhaurahra seat of Lakhimpur Kheri in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Then he was at the third position in the elections after BJP and BSP.
  • The same was the case in 2019 as well. Jitin got 1.62 lakh votes in Dhaurahra seat. But lost.
  • In the 2017 assembly elections, Jitin Prasad contested from Tilhar, a Brahmin dominated area, but lost the election.

What do political analysts say?

BJP can get the benefit of Jitin being a Brahmin to some extent in UP

Dr. Neelima Gupta, Professor of Political Science at Bareilly College, says that Jitin Prasad’s joining BJP is not surprising. Jitin had been feeling neglected in the Congress for a long time. Like the rest of the young leaders in the Congress, he too was not seeing any future for himself. There was a big challenge before him to save his political career and for this there can be no better party than BJP. Today, except BJP, there is no career security in other parties.

BJP also has a record that it does not refuse any leader to join the party soon. Gets everyone the membership of the party. BJP can get the benefit of Jitin being a Brahmin to some extent in UP. Right now in Uttar Pradesh, BJP has Prof. There are Brahmin faces like Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Deputy CM Dr. Dinesh Sharma, MLC AK Sharma. But their influence is more in Eastern and Central UP. Now with the arrival of Jitin, BJP has got a big Brahmin face in the West.

Bareilly and adjoining 30 seats, Congress defeat everywhere

Lakhimpur Kheri has two Lok Sabha and 8 assembly constituencies. Shahjahanpur has 6 Vidhan Sabha and one Lok Sabha seats and Bareilly has 9 Vidhan Sabha and two Lok Sabha seats. In all these seats, the Congress got a bad defeat first in 2017 and then in 2019.
