Former Indian sprinter Milkha Singh participated in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. For this he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2001.

Due to this, 91-year-old Milkha Singh has been admitted to the ICU of Kovid Hospital, PGIMER. Where his condition remains stable at present. Milkha Singh and his 82-year-old wife Nirmal Kaur became Corona positive only last week. Thereafter he was admitted to the hospital. Three had already been discharged from the hospital on the matter of the family. Since then he was undergoing treatment in Quarantine at home. When his condition worsened, he had to be admitted to the hospital again. Milkha Singh’s son Jeev lives in Dubai. They have returned home. Milkha Singh was born on 20 November 1929 in a Sikh family of Govindpura (now part of Pakistan). There was a lot of love for sports and country, because of this he fled to India after partition and joined the Indian Army. He was in the army for some time, but due to his inclination towards the sport, he took part in cross country running. More than 400 soldiers ran in it. Milkha came at number 6.
Government of India honored with Padma Shri
Participated in the 1956 Olympic Games held in Melbourne. Could not do anything special, but opened the way for further competitions. He set several records in the 200 and 400 meters at the National Games held in Cuttack in 1958. In the same year, he won gold medals in the 200m, 400m events at the Asian Games held in Tokyo and the 400m race in the Commonwealth. Seeing his success, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri.

Milkha Singh went for a race held in Pakistan. He did a great job in this. Seeing his performance, General Ayub Khan of Pakistan named him ‘The Flying Sikh’. Milkha Singh had high hopes in the 1960 Summer Olympics held in Rome. In the 400 meters race, he was leading for 200 meters, but after that he slowed down his pace. Due to this he lagged behind in the race and finished at number four. In 1964, he won gold medals in the 400m and 4×400 relay at the Asian Games.
