New Zealand opener Devon Conway made many records as he scored 200 runs in his debut Test against England. He became the third highest run-scorer among left-handed batsmen in the debut test. In this case, he left India’s Shikhar Dhawan behind. Dhawan scored 187 runs in his debut Test against Australia in 2013.
Jacques Rudolph of South Africa holds the record for scoring the most runs among left-handed batsmen in the debut test. He scored 222 not out against Bangladesh in Chittagong in 2003. West Indies’ Kyle Myers is at number two in this list. He scored 210 not out in the debut test against Bangladesh in the same year.
3rd Kiwi player to score 150+ runs in debut test
Conway also became the third New Zealand batsman to score 150 or more in a Test debut. Earlier, Matthew Sinclair had scored 214 runs against West Indies in Wellington in 1999. At the same time, Hamish Rutherford scored 171 runs against England in Dunedin in 2013.
Conway breaks 125-year-old record as soon as he scores 200 runs
Conway became the 7th batsman in the world and the second New Zealand batsman to score a double century on debut in the 144-year history of Test cricket. Along with this, he also broke the 125-year-old record. Conway became the first batsman to score a double century in a Test debut at Lord’s.
Earlier, KS Ranjit Singh played an innings of 154 runs in the debut test against Australia in 1896 while playing for the England team. At the same time, in 1880, Williams Grace of England scored 152 runs in the debut Test against Australia.
Ganguly’s record was broken on Thursday
Conway broke the record of former India captain Sourav Ganguly as soon as he scored 132 runs in the innings. Ganguly scored 131 runs in his debut match at Lord’s in 1996. Conway is also the third non-British player to have scored 100+ runs at Lord’s. Apart from Ganguly, Australia’s Harry Graham scored 107 against England in 1893.
