Automobile companies have released the sales figures of vehicles in May 2021. Auto sales figures are disappointing for most companies due to the second wave of the Kovid-19 pandemic. The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Limited has reported a loss of 71% on a monthly basis. Let’s take a look at the auto sales figures for all the companies in May…

71% loss to Maruti Suzuki
The company sold a total of 46,555 vehicles last month. At the same time, in April, it had sold 1,59,691 vehicles. That is, it has suffered a loss of 71% on a monthly basis. However, the company has grown on a yearly basis. It sold 18,539 vehicles in May 2020. Maruti’s passenger vehicle sales fell by 76% in May. However, it grew at 34% with exports of 11,262 vehicles. At the same time, it sold 25,103 vehicles with a drop of 79% in mini and compact vehicles.

Mahindra & Mahindra sales fall by 52%
Sales of the company were impacted as the supply chain was affected by the lockdown in May. In May, Mahindra & Mahindra sold a total of 17,447 vehicles. It has lost 52% on monthly basis. The company sold a total of 36,437 vehicles in April. However, in the passenger vehicle segment (UVs, cars and vans), the company sold 8,004 vehicles with an annual growth of 107%. The company exported 1,935 vehicles with a growth of 300% last month. In May 2020, it exported 484 vehicles. Tractor sales fell by 12.13% on a monthly basis.

Tata Motors sales down 38%
Tata Motors sold 24,552 vehicles in the domestic market in May, a decrease of 38% on a monthly basis. In April, the company sold 39,530 vehicles as against 4,418 in the same month last year. Analysts were expecting the company’s sales to be 22,500 units in May. In May, the company sold 6938 Nexon, 6656 Tiago, 6649 Altroz, 1712 Harrier, 1627 Tigor and 1514 Safari.

Ashok Leyland sales down 51.59%
Ashok Leyland’s total sales stood at 3,199 units in May. The company has incurred losses on a monthly basis. In April, it had sold 7,961 vehicles. However, the sales figures have improved on a year-on-year basis. In May last year, the company sold 1,420 vehicles.

Bajaj Auto gets 114% growth
Bajaj Auto sold 2,71,862 vehicles in May with a growth of 114%. In May last year, the company had sold 1,27,128 vehicles. In domestic sales, it sold 60,830 vehicles with a growth of 52%. In May 2020, it sold 40,074 vehicles. At the same time, 2,11,032 vehicles were exported with a growth of 142%. In May 2020, it exported 87,054 vehicles.
