The Supreme Court on Monday heard petitions related to Kovid Management. On the issue of vaccination, the Supreme Court questioned the policy of the Center. The court told the Center that the price of the vaccine should be the same in the entire country.
Supreme Court’s question on the logic of the Center
A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, Justice L Nageswara Rao and Justice Ravindra Bhat said – the Center says that it has to pay the price for buying more vaccines. If this is your reasoning, then why are the states paying more for the vaccine? Vaccine prices need to be kept the same throughout the country. The epidemic has increased in the last two months.
The system of registration in rural areas was also asked
The bench also asked the court what is being done for the vaccination of rural areas where people are not aware of the digital system? You said that villagers can register on the Kovin app through NGOs. Our court clerks and secretaries have tried to register Kovin to know how the app works.
The court gave instructions regarding the epidemic
Justice DY Chandrachud expressed concern over the current situation in the country due to the epidemic. He said in instructive tone- We want you to be aware of what is happening in the country. You must make the necessary changes.
Justice Chandrachud made this comment while he was considering the difficulties faced by registration for vaccination in rural areas.
In the hearing held on 8 May, the Supreme Court ordered the formation of a 12-member National Task Force. The court argued that the inputs from this task force would help policy makers to sort out the current problems.
