India has achieved great success in research related to Corona. Nagpur’s National Environment Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) has found an easy way to test the corona. This gives the same exact results as RT-PCR within 3 hours.
It is named the Saline Gargle RT-PCR test. This means checking the corona through gargling with salt water. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has given it approval on Saturday. NEERI has said that they will help labs to increase the test through this process across the country.
This process is easy, fast and comfortable for the patient. It will prove to be very beneficial for the rural areas. Dr. Krishna Khairnar, the head scientist of the virology department of NEERI, said that this process is quite easy.
People usually have to spend hours in line to give swab samples for the RT-PCR test. After this, it also takes time to collect the swab sample and transport it to the lab. In contrast, Saline Gargle can be sampled immediately in RT-PCR test and the result is also available within 3 hours. Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan has said that this research can prove to be a game changer. Nagpur Municipal Corporation has approved the test through this test.
How can a patient take a sample?
How is an RT-PCR test?
RT-PCR means reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction test. It involves DNA chain reaction to detect the virus inside the patient. The genetic material of the virus is tested through a test. Corona is an RNA virus. In this, the RNA used for the test is extracted from the patient’s swab.
