Akhil Rabindra’s performance in the first round of the race at the Circuit Paul Ricard in the European GT4 Championship 2021 was interrupted due to a technical fault. Akhil, a 24-year-old racer from Bengaluru, the only Indian to compete in the European GT4 Championship, finished 16th (P-16) in the silver category.
Entered Aston Martin Racing Drivers Academy
The pair of Hugo Condé and Akhil had to retire after 16 laps in Race 1 due to an engine problem. Akhil then took the driver’s seat in Race 2, driving an Aston Martin Vantage GT4 for the AGS Events Racing team. Akhil is also the only Asian to succeed at the prestigious Aston Martin Racing Driver Academy in 2021. This is a feat he has achieved for the third consecutive year.
Akhil performed brilliantly in Race-2
After qualifying in 14th place (P-14) in the qualifying race, Akhil and Hugo had to retire in Race 1 due to a faulty engine. In the race he was seen completing 16 laps in 38:29.167 minutes. Akhil then took over the steering in Race 2 and performed brilliantly to finish the race in silver category with 15th position (P-15). He finished overall 29th (P-29) in a grid of 41 cars. Akhil clocked 1:01:40.275 minutes in Race 2 at Circuit Paul Ricard.
Akhil’s focus will be on improving performance going forward
Akhil said that there are many opportunities for us to improve performance and we will work on it further. I have personally understood and tested a lot. Now I will start working on my shortcomings as soon as possible to improve my performance for the upcoming races.
Round 3 of the European GT4 Championship in June
The next round of the European GT4 Championship, the third round, will be held at Circuit Zandvoort, Netherlands, from 18 to 20 June 2021. The race can be viewed live on the European GT4 Series YouTube page.
