The commission will advise US President Joe Biden on how the public, private and nonprofit sectors can work together for the betterment of the Asian community.
President Joe Biden is going to form the Commission through Executive Order for the betterment of people of Asian descent in America. It will advise the President on how the public, private and non-profit sectors can work together for the betterment of the Asian community. With this, the President has directed to place at least 15% of Asian Americans in all departments. At the same time, a senior liaison officer will be appointed in the White House, who will work for the community.
Indeed, cases of violence and discrimination against Asians have increased in the US in the past few months. There have been 6,600 such incidents in the past year. That is why the government is also going to fund research to prevent bias and hatred against the Asian-American community. Language experts will be recruited to bring federal programs and plans to this group. The National Science Foundation is currently funding over 100 such programs in the US. The foundation has invested Rs 238 crore on this. Asian American activists said Biden’s initiative would provide a historic boost to the migrant group.
Shekhar Narasimhan, the leader of the Asian community and an ally of Biden, says – will be the first time documenting hate crimes against Asian-Americans. Now monitoring of hate crime will become easier. For example, on March 16 this year, eight people, six of whom were Asian women, were killed in shootings at three Atlanta-area massage parlors. After the new law comes, those responsible for the shooting will also be prosecuted for hate crime. Right now only the murder case goes on.
The government has recently passed the Kovid-19 Hate Crime Act. This will help the FBI identify Hate Crime and provide speedy justice to the victims. The Department of Justice will appoint officers who will review hate crime. Many people from the Asian community are not knowledgeable in English, in such a way, people who speak in their own language will be deployed.
