Chandigarh: The Punjab government has said that healthcare professionals and other frontline medical workers who do not get COVID-19 vaccine, will not get any government financial help for treatment if they are infected later. Also, they will not get leave to go to Corentine or Isolation. The state government has taken seriously the increasing cases of COVID-19 in some states and low vaccination rates among health workers and frontline workers in Punjab.
Punjab Health Minister Balbir Sidhu has said in a statement that healthcare workers who despite repeated opportunities do not get vaccinated to avoid COVID-19 and strengthen their immunity and later if they get infected Their treatment will have to be borne by themselves and they will not be discharged for correntine or isolation. Sidhu said that COVID-19’s are increasing in Punjab in recent times.
A total of 3000 cases are active in Punjab with 358 cases reported on 20 February. Whereas three weeks ago there were only 2000 active cases. Thus, it has increased by 33 percent. The Health Minister said that to deal with any unprecedented situation, there is a dire need to get all health workers vaccinated. Punjab is among the six states where COVID-19 cases are increasing and we should prepare to fight it like a second wave.
2.06 lakh health workers and 1.82 lakh frontline workers register
Sidhu said that these increasing cases indicate that COVID-19 is not over yet and Punjab may see an increase in the number of cases. In such a situation, there is still a need to follow social distance, wearing masks, cleaning hands etc. Expressing concern over the low rate of vaccination among health workers, the Health Minister said that so far 2.06 lakh health workers and 1.82 lakh frontline workers have registered for COVID-19 vaccination.
Vaccination plan for 3 crore health workers and frontline workers in first phase
About 79000 or 38 percent health workers and 4000 frontline workers have been vaccinated. The vaccine is safe and effective and not a single case of death or any serious adverse effects has been reported in Punjab. The Health Minister said that no one should be misled by rumors and misinformation. The last date for taking the first dose of vaccine for health workers in Punjab has been extended from February 19 to 25 February. The vaccination plan of the government depends on immunization of more and more people. In the first phase of vaccination, the government has planned to vaccinate 3 crore health workers and frontline workers. After this, there will be a turn of 27 crore people who are more than 50 years of age.
