Search engine Google has been fined $ 1.3 million (about Rs 9.5 crore). These fines were imposed by the French authorities for showing incorrect ranking of hotels in France. Earlier, Google used information from official source about France and hotel industry website to give hotels one to five star rankings.

The investigation started in 2019
Hotels owners complained to the French government about the Google ranking. After which the government agency started investigating it in 2019 and 2020 regarding fraud and competition. The agency’s objective was to truthfully monitor the information available to 7,500 institutions through the platform.
