Competition seems to be intensifying with electric scooters Bajaj Chetak and TVS iCube. Last year, iCube sold a total of 290 units while Electric Chetak sold a total of 1337 units. However, the situation looks quite different this month. Last month, iCube overtook Chetak in terms of sales.

Not a single iCube was sold in January last year

  • Last month, TVS iCube sold a total of 211 units. However, it did not sell a single unit in January 2020, so there is no annual growth figure. It sold 58 units in December 2020. That is to say, there is a monthly increase of 263.79% in sales.
  • Talking about Bajaj Chetak EV scooter, it sold a total of 30 units in January 2021. This is an increase of 42.86% annually. Only 20 units were sold in January 2020. In December 2020, only 3 units were sold, ie monthly sales of 900% in Chetak sales.

  • TVS iCube sales were ahead of Bajaj Chetak in December 2020. The main reason for the lower sales of Chetak is not the poor demand but the lack of semiconductors, which is running globally. Bajaj has currently stopped taking new bookings for its electric scooter as it already has more than 1,500 peddling orders.

Electric Chetak’s starting price is 1 lakh rupees
The Bajaj Chetak EV has a retro-inspired design, which looks quite attractive. It has a 3 kWh battery pack, paired with a 4.08 kW electric motor. The scooter can provide a range of 95 km in a single charge. It takes about 5 hours for the battery to be fully charged. Chetak is available in two variants. The Urban variant is priced at Rs 1 lakh while the premium variant is priced at Rs 1.15 lakh.

The price of TVS iCube is 1.15 lakh rupees
On the other hand, the TVS iCube offers a futuristic design. It has a 2.25 kWh battery pack, paired with a 4.4 kW electric motor. The scooter can provide a maximum range of 75 km in a single charge. The battery takes up to 5 hours to full charge. The iCube is available in only one variant, priced at Rs 1.15 lakh. (All ex-showrooms are prices)
