The Uttarakhand government is going to set up a department to find out the cause of glacier breakdown in Chamoli. There will also be a demand from the Central Government to find out the radar system that America sent 56 years ago in the Himalayan hill. It contained a capsule powered by nuclear power (plutonium). China was to be monitored with this radar. State’s irrigation minister Satpal Maharaj said this on Monday.

Satpal Maharaj also said that a department will also be created under his ministry which will monitor and study the glaciers from satellite. It is believed that if the glacier is broken due to the explosion in plutonium, then dangerous radiation can also spread in Uttarakhand and especially in the Ganges river.

planet.com released this satellite image. It showed that where the white snow was frozen on the mountain before the accident, later that part started to look darker.

What is a plutonium pack?
China conducted a nuclear test in 1964. After this, in 1965, the US entered into an agreement with India to keep an eye on China. Under this, a radar was to be mounted on the hill of Nanda Devi in the Himalayas. It had a nuclear powered generator. This generator contained capsules of plutonium. But when these machines were being carried on the mountain, then the weather got worse. The team had to return. The machine was left there. Later they were lost somewhere in the glacier.

After losing the machines, the US installed a second system there. It is now feared that the glacier in Chamoli has not broken due to this plutonium. It is said that the age of a plutonium pack is about 100 years.

The accident took place last week in Tapovan area of Chamoli district on February 7 due to the sudden glacier rupture of Rishiganga and Dhauliganga rivers. NTPC’s hydro power plant built here was washed away. A tunnel was filled with debris, with the rescue operation still being carried out. So far 56 bodies have been recovered in this disaster. Apart from these, 22 mutilated human organs have also been found. Their identification will be done through DNA test only.
