The trend of electric vehicles in the country is increasing rapidly. In this series, Amazon India will also use electric vehicles for local delivery. The company announced a partnership with Mahindra Electric on 23 February.
Networked 100 electric vehicles for seven cities of the country
The e-commerce company has linked around 100 Mahindra Treo Zor EVs to its delivery network in seven cities of the country as part of the partnership. This includes Bengaluru, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Indore and Lucknow.
Mahindra Electric belongs to Mahindra Group
The 8-kilowatt power Treo Zor has a capacity of carrying up to 550 kilograms. It was launched in October 2020. This EV of Mahindra is equipped with advanced lithium-ion battery. Mahindra Electric, the company that manufactures electric vehicles, is part of the Mahindra Group, which does business from hotels to vehicles.
10 thousand electric trains planned to be in delivery network by 2025
In 2020, Amazon India announced that it would add about 10,000 electric vehicles to its delivery network by 2025. These trains are different from the announcement under which Amazon has asked to add around one lakh electric trains to its delivery network worldwide by 2030. However, how much Mahindra Electric’s share will be in 10,000 EV is not yet clear.
Flipkart is also using EV, the e-commerce sector Flipkart, another major company has also announced to adopt fully electric vehicles by 2030. In August 2020, the Walmart-owned company said it would add step-by-step electric vehicles throughout its network. By 2030, the company will have corporate fleet electric in its network. Flipkart is currently using electric vehicles in Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Bhubaneshwar, Pune, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Lucknow.
