Republic TV editor Arnab Goswami was arrested by the police on Wednesday. Arnab is accused of abetting a designer to commit suicide.
The bail application of Arnab Goswami, editor of Republic TV, will be heard in the Bombay High Court today. The High Court had on Thursday denied the hearing saying that it cannot pass a decision on bail without hearing all the parties. Thus on the second night of Arnab, he also went to a temporary jail in a school in Alibag Municipal Council.
The High Court wants Arnab to listen to his wife Akshata as well as the Maharashtra government. The court asked Arnab to include Akshata in his application.
District court had said – arrest looks wrong
Earlier on Wednesday, the Raigad district court sent Arnab to a 14-day judicial custody. The police had sought a 14-day remand, but the court said that Arnab’s arrest seemed prima facie wrong. This comment of the court came out on Thursday. After the District Court’s decision, Arnab filed a bail application in the High Court on Wednesday, saying that the FIR lodged against him in this case should also be canceled.
What were the charges and arrest on Arnab?
In Mumbai, interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumudini committed suicide in May 2018. The suicide note accused 3 people, including Arnab. According to the suicide note, Arnab and the other accused had hired Naik as the designer for different projects, but did not pay about Rs 5.40 crore. This worsened Anavay’s financial situation and he succeeds.
In the case of Anvay, Raigad police arrested Arnab from his house in Lower Parel area at around 6 am on Wednesday. There was a lot of uproar during this. Arnab alleged that the police beat him up.
